Factors that cause the bone cancer

CAUSES FOR BONE CANCER

Bone cancer is caused by a problem with the cells that make bone. More than 2,000 people are diagnosed in the United States each year with a bone tumor. Bone cancer begins as an error in a cell's DNA. The error causes the cells to grow and divide in an uncontrolled and irreversible way. These cells will go on living as they are not dying at a set time. The accumulating mutated cells form a mass (tumor) that can invade nearby structures or spread to other areas of the body.  Bone tumors occur most commonly in children and adolescents and are less common in older adults. Cancer involving the bone in older adults is most commonly the result of metastatic spread from another tumor. (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/bone-cancer/DS00520/DSECTION=causes)

Bone tumors may be benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous). Benign bone tumours are more common than malignant ones. Both types may grow and compress healthy bone tissue and absorb or replace it with abnormal tissue. However, benign tumours do not spread and are rarely life-threatening.

Cancer that arises in the bone (primary bone cancer) is not the same disease as cancer that spreads to the bone from another part of the body (secondary bone cancer). Primary bone cancer is rare, with approximately 2,500 new cases diagnosed each year in the United States. More commonly, bones are the site of tumours that result from the spread (metastasis) of cancer from another organ, such as the breasts, lungs, and prostate. Although there is no a specific reason for the cause of bone cancer as bone cancer commonly occurs due to the spread from another tumor,  there are some specific risk factors for bone cancer. A risk factor is anything that increases a person's chance of developing a disease. Risk factors do not cause bone cancer, but they may act together to increase a person's chances of developing it. Those risk factors including of being a child or young adult. For someone who did the radiation or chemotherapy before, has the history of Paget’s disease has the history of bone cancer and people with hereditary retinoblastoma, people with a close relative (parent or sibling) who has/had bone cancer, individuals with hereditary renoblastoma which is a type of eye cancer that most commonly affects very young children, people with Li-Fraumeni syndrome which is a rare genetic condition and babies born with an unmbilical hernia have a higher opportunity to get bone cancer.

Scientists continue to research on the causes of this kind of disease, bone cancer. People with high opportunity to get the bone cancer are always advised to talk to the doctor about the condition. The doctor will definitely give his advice which is based on the person’s age, medical history and also the other factors. (http://bone-cancer.emedtv.com/bone-cancer/causes-of-bone-cancer.html)
