MAKNA (Majlis Kanser Nasional or the National Cancer Council) pool and utilise every effort, skill and financial aid from society, and to fight cancer and reduce the related pain, suffering and morbidity that cancer patients and their families often experience. MAKNA focus on:
| a) MAKNA Bursary Programme provides financially-challenged cancer patients the required support such as treatment cost. b) The purchase of cancer-related medication and treatment at the Institut Kanser MAKNA - Pusat Perubatan Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (IKM-PPUKM). c) MAKNA Cancer Research (ongoing since 2001) provides information, technology and development in finding cure for cancer. d) To provide consistent cancer awareness and education programmes to educate and promote an understanding of a healthy lifestyle. e) To conduct fund-raising Projects. f) To raise sufficient funds for cancer-related services to the community. g) To provide screening and early diagnostic facilities to enable early detection of cancer. h) To provide cancer information effectively to all levels of society. i) To encourage, support and conduct research on cancer, which could lead to innovative treatment approaches. j) Young Cancer Survivor Scholarship, which aims to support young cancer survivors wishing to further their studies. k) Volunteer Community Outreach Programme, which is useful for building and maintaining civil society, a sphere of organized activities are implemented in raising the quality of life. |
Malaysia Anti-cancer Association  First, to reduce the incidence of cancer and to provide the most convenient and consulting services to the cancer patients and their families for the resources needed, in addition to health care, including social resources and psychological support systems. Therefore, we actively assist the Ministry of Health plans to make public in the shortest possible time-period, the most convenient side arms, all stages of the disease to adapt to meet the different needs, to ease the impact of cancer. Second, the integration of social resources, so that anti-cancer operations can be sustainable. However, cancer prevention is a long-term, we must invest a lot of manpower and material resources, such as rely on the efforts of a few units, not only limited success, it will also be unsustainable. Education advocacy, counseling, medical information inquiries, providing health care throughout the community and consulting services. National cancer society of Malaysia  · The Society seeing the needs of the accommodation for cancer patients coming to Kuala Lumpur for radiation treatment assisted them by providing rooms in various hotels around the General Hospital. Later the Society refurbished two of the old Tai Wah wards and provided 80 hostel type accommodation for patients coming to Kuala Lumpur for treatment. Later when the Tai Wah wards were taken over by the authorities, the Ambulant Cancer Ward in the General Hospital was taken over and run by the Society until handed over to the Ministry of Health a few years back. The Society provides financial assistance to cancer patients and their families when recommended by the Medical Social Workers at the Hospital Kuala Lumpur and Hospital UKM, Cheras. Launching grants were also given to help set up hospice movements in Klang, Melaka, Kelantan, Sarawak and Sabah: ~ The Society took part in Public Education Programme where exhibitions, talks, seminars and lectures are held. The Society also prints pamphlets on cancer which are distributed free to schools, associations and institutions in order to improve the awareness of the public; ~ The Society is also participated in Medical Education Programmes where talks and lectures are given by eminent specialists from overseas who are invited annually to the medical professionals to update them on the latest trends in the management of cancer patients. Association of private hospitals in Malaysia  (Association of Private Hospitals of Malaysia, 2008) The Association of Private Hospitals of Malaysia is more commonly known as APHM. It is representing private hospitals and medical centers in Malaysia. The Association has been in existence since 1972 and has over 100 members throughout Malaysia currently. APHM member hospitals are key partners with the public sector healthcare providers in bringing comprehensive medical care to all Malaysians through its member hospitals. The APHM plays an important role in helping to raise standards of medical care within the country. Some of the activities geared towards this objective include :-
